- What You Can Expect -

Lampang is a fascinating city just 90 kms south of Chiang Mai. Lampang is relatively untouched by tourism. The city boasts many magnificent temples, historic houses and lively markets apart from the nearby Thai Elephant Conservation Center.
We'll pick you up at your hotel in the morning and head to the Thai Elephant Conservation Center.

First we'll watch about fifteen performing elephants take a bath in a beautiful pond just below the rides area. After the bath, visitors can walk alongside as the elephants parade to the showground.
Bathing is quite a spectacle, with fifteen elephants submerging and rolling and spraying water with their trunks. The mahouts very nimbly manage not to fall into the water while scrubbing their charges.

And then we will try the exciting elephant rides. The constant swaying motion, particularly on steep slopes, is tiring enough that a short ride is enough for most people.

Then it's the elephant show time! The central theme of the show demonstrates traditional logging techniques that were widely practiced in Thailand for hundreds of years until logging was banned in 1989. The performance also shows the artistic side of elephants. They play a variety of musical instruments during the show, most having played in the Thai Elephant Orchestra. It's a famous activity you can't miss!

Next we'll visit the most famous temple in Lampang--Wat Phra That Lampang Luang.
The Wat Phra That Lampang Luang is one of the most highly revered temples in Thailand. The temple buildings seen today were built in the fifteenth century, and one of the reasons for the temple's popularity is the relatively pure state of all the temple buildings. Unlike most of the temples in Chiang Mai, Wat Phra That Lampang Luang hasn't been 'improved' to conform to modern Thai ideas about temples. The courtyard is still filled with sand, and the huge main wharf (prayer hall) is still open on all sides.

The guests who choose horse carriage can explore the charming town with colorful horse-drawn carriage.
