- Introduction of the attraction
Beijing's Prospect Garden is a re-creation of the famous garden's of the literature classic "A Dream of Red Mansions." It is located in the Xuan Wu district's Southern Garden. (near the moat in the southwest of downtown) The original garden served both the Ming and Qing Dynasties as their imperial gardens, with the Ming establishing a governmental office here. In 1984, in order to shoot the drama "A dream of Red Mansions," literature scholars, experts on ancient Chinese architecture and landscapers worked together to re-create the same garden described in the narrative. Using ancient Chinese architecture skills and traditional gardening methods they made this impressive replica. The architecture within the garden, down to the water system, plant life and other details and ornamentation were all faithfully recreated to match the narrative in "A Dream of Red Mansions." In this narrative Prospect Gardens was a villa, built by the eldest daughter of a government official and as a token of gratitude to her elders. So, within the gardens the costume drama "Visiting the Elders," is held.
